Newspapers

1) Do you often read newspapers?

Yes, I do. I work as a teaching assistant in my teacher’s office, where I can read a large amount of newspapers of home and abroad every day, during which I can know more about the international politics. I am totally attracted by it.

Honestly, I seldom read newspapers because I will have to pay a certain amount of subscription fee and spend much time in waiting for them to be mailed to my house every day if I want to read them. This is indeed very inconvenient today when I can just get to know what’s going on for the world through the Internet.

2) Which do you prefer reading, magazines or newspapers?

Compared with newspapers, magazines are better for me: usually, they are richer in content and have beautifully-arranged columns with nice photos from all over the world, which all make magazines excellent choices for leisure moments.

3) What kinds of (types of) newspapers (or magazines) do you usually read?

Travel magazines appeal to me most because I crave for photos and articles with first-hand experience of exotic lands. As I am burdened with heavy school work like writing papers and other stuffs, it seems that reading travel magazines is the best way for me to satisfy such crave.

4) How old were you when you first started to read newspapers?

It was probably six or seven when I first read newspapers. I would say that it was quite an early age to read them because at that time I barely understood half of the words written on an article, which indeed was not a pleasant thing for me to read newspapers. As a result, I started early yet I didn’t read much newspapers.

5) Do you think it’s important to read newspapers? (Why?/Why not?)

In my opinion, people read newspapers primarily for the sake of acquiring information. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, the need for information grows accordingly, which makes it even more important for people to get information on the internet than through newspapers in the past.

6) Why do (you think) people read newspapers?

For one thing, newspapers provide us the latest news of the world by a deeper article. For another, as a traditional reading way, newspaper can protect our eyes better.

7) What different types of newspapers are there in China?

Many types of newspapers are available in China with various styles so as to meet different groups of readers. It seems to me that the variety of styles in newspapers demonstrates exactly the fast growth of our society.

8) Do you care about the news?

Actually, it is safe to say that I can’t live and breath without news, for I major in translation and my academic study demands that I keep touch with the updates update of the world and respond to it timely when it comes to translation.Owing to that, my phone is loaded with news apps and they always keep me informed.

9) Is the news important (to you)?

Definitely, as I have mentioned above, the news has played a very significant role in my daily life of work and study for such a long time.

10) What kinds of news do Chinese people read in newspapers?

Well, I guess financial news attract the largest crowd of readers for the reason that it is the economy that constitutes the building blocks of our society. Yet I would say that different people might find dissimilar types of newspapers handy or interesting according to their social background and habitual preference.

11) Do you prefer to read about domestic (or local) news or international news? (Why?)

International news is more attract for me that those of domestic.. As a student who has never stepped outside China, international news always supplies me with exotic culture and updates of what’s going on in those faraway lands. I would say that they help me understand and appreciate foreign nations without the necessity of going to these places.

I think I prefer to read domestic news. According to my perspective, the domestic news is directly related to our life, so I will not feel the distance between the news and me. As for the international news, it takes place thousands miles away from me, I always feel unrealistic about it.

12) What are some methods that newspapers use to attract readers?

I guess there are various ways for newspapers to apply, like adding more columns in the entertainment section and making their headlines more attractive to readers. I still remembered a local newspaper in my hometown once host a contest. As a prize for the competition, any competitor who could solve an extremely complicated math question could get 5,000 yuan. Surely, the method brings the newspaper more readers.

13) What influence do you think newspapers have on society?

Newspapers report timely facts about of the world, so I think they helped us a lot in with getting much more access to the dynamics of the global community. Better still, they can be delivered rightly to our houses or apartments, which obviously saves time and increases efficiency.

14) Do you think the internet is a good way to get news?

Definitely, easy and timely access to news is of paramount importance today, which makes the Internet an even more ideal tool than newspapers to acquire information. With the help of the Internet, I can check out what’s happening all over the world whenever and wherever only with a cell phone.
